What is color? How can objects around appear to be different colors when only "white light" from the sun illuminates them? Can the "secrets of color" help us understand our Earth differently? How do satellites "see" us from space?
More Lessons from the Sky endeavors to present original lesson plans and highlight lesson plans already published that enhance student understanding of space-based technologies especially satellites and the use of satellite-based remote-sensing environmental data. This lesson was inspired by and adapted from materials originally published by NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center as the first of three units in IMAGERS: The Adventures of Echo the Bat.
Coupled with How Light Moves from the SEA Lesson Plan Library, this inquiry lesson completes a two lesson set in which grades 4-5 learners develop an understanding of the nature of light and color, especially as it relates to satellite remote sensing and digital imaging of the various components of our Earth systems.
